game night! … in a bucket ♥

a few projects around the house are still in full swing this week!
but i wanted to stop and share this fun gift i put together
for a wedding shower i was invited to.
see i’m not your typical go to the store print off the registry
buy six towels & a matching soap dispenser kinda girl 🙂
i figure the happy couple-to-be will get enough of that old lady boring stuff
and instead they’d rather have something different & fun!
(well at least i’d rather get this gift)
(much more than the soap dispenser)

this is kinda along the same lines as the baby bath caddy that i made up a few months ago
cept this is a great gift idea, not only for newlyweds, but for a bunch of different events.

round up a few things to get this bucket-o-fun started…

air poppers are reasonably priced,
and the popcorn tastes so much better than the fake microwave stuff right?!
(especially with all that healthy butter & salt)

i also took it right out of the box, so it would fit better
i’m not fond of boxes & bags when it comes to making a gift pretty
i almost always take everything out of it’s packaging
before i pack it into an open gift like this
(i did tuck the manual and a gift receipt right behind everything once i was done)
(so don’t freak out)
(all you original box lovers out there)

there’s not much to explain when it comes to putting this together
all these supplies were found at Target
and the beverage tub was even clearanced out for the summer.

a few packs of card games would be neat to throw into the bucket too,
drink mixes … candy … anything you think you’d want to eat while playing games 🙂

on a side note, i have a special spot in my heart for the sunday comics.
as in the funny papers.
when i was a kid i’d get so excited about getting sunday’s paper
because that was the paper that had the “color” comics … i’d read them once
then come back and read them a couple more times … weird huh?
and now i like to use them for everything
for wrapping Christmas presents and boxes that get sent in the mail
… i just know that someday i’m gonna think of an ingenious idea
for my stash of funny papers
just you wait and see…

ok, back to the bucket.
crumple up some comic paper and add a few pieces to the bottom of the bucket
this way everything has a little bit of height.

grab some ribbon and tie it around
(i used a piece of masking tape to secure the ribbon on the underside of the bucket)
aaaand if you like my tag, it’s a free printable here for you to use!
🙂

just click on the image to download & save, then print on heavy card-stock

how cute to spend a fun evening home together as newlyweds
popping popcorn and playing twister 😉 heehee

dress up dolly kit … ♥

my littlest little had a birthday party to go to last week
this is our favorite go-to gift for a little girl (or even an older girl)
both my girls have a lot of fun when they get out the scrap bin in my craft room
and start dressing up these dolls (there is a boy doll and a poodle… and a kitty too 🙂

print out the paper dolls from here
so gracious of her to share with everyone! love that … thank you 🙂
she already had the idea to put the dolls printed out in a little suitcase
with some supplies for gifting

we went to joanns and found this stack-able three-compartment tote
perfect for what we wanted to put in it

the three sections come apart and then snap back together
we put markers for coloring, scissors and glue in the top section

itty bitty yarn skeins (also from joanns) felt & ribbon scraps
and a couple little baggies filled with buttons & pompoms ♥

the bottom section had the dolls (which we cut down so they would fit)
and all the fabric remnants for making their clothes

my daughter made an “example dolly” to stick in there too
so her buddy would know what to do 🙂

every-time they make one of these kits, they usually spend the next few days
going back to the bin and making another batch of their own 🙂

summer is officially here …
we’re craftin – watchin tv – playing outside
and roastin marshmallows over daddy’s new fire pit 🙂
wish summer could stay forever. ♥
(the little dress tags can be found in my shop … right here 🙂

summer in a jar … ♥

it’s officially summer here 🙂
school is over and we’re excited for some fun stuff ahead

last week i wanted to come up with a few small teacher gifts for the girls to bring on the last day of school …
and i’ve been on a “gift in a jar” kick this year
so i figured i’d end the year with one more last hoo-rah 🙂

these were for teachers & school staff
but they can be for anyone!
a summer birthday party gift or a friend pick-me-up present

i tried to find things that were all the same color
the neon orange & pink together really made it look like a little bit of summer bottled up in there 🙂

i found everything at Target … mostly in the travel section
except for the gum and the drink mixes
everything fit in there quite nicely…

with just enough room on top for the poofy bath thingy … whatever those are called

whipped up a little label and punched it out with a big round scalloped punch

i put the hand sanitizers on the outside just because that pink was so pretty i didn’t want to hide it!
and there ya go! sum. sum. summertime in a jar!
heehee 🙂

baby gift idea ♥ bath time caddy

it’s that time of year 🙂
for babies & weddings
here’s a quick no-fuss gift idea
when you get that next baby shower invite in your mailbox

started off by taping and painting a square on the front of a summer utensil caddy from Target
with some chalkboard paint … it needs a few coats, and some drying time between each
doing this the day before you assemble the gift gives it some time to set

raid the baby department
have fun deciding what to put into the caddy compartments
towels, washcloths, lotion & wash
powder, brush & comb, ointments
and some fun bath toys.

once everything was in it… it still needed a little somethin’ 🙂

this cute vintage baby image was digitally cutified by my gal pal
you can find it in her shop!
using pic monkey, i added the image to some fun baby bath “instructions”

decorated the insert with some pretty paper & embellishments
and tucked it in with the towels

simple, no-stress gift for baby
and it’s super cute too boot
♥

Keren has so many fun digital images in her shop
that can inspire so many crafty ideas 🙂

a zipper bracelet tutorial … ♥

Mother’s Day always sneaks up on me 🙂
it’s almost here, and i have a great handmade gift idea to share with you!

all week long, myself & the nine other bloggers, are sharing handmade gift ideas
that will make your mom, or any mom, feel super special ♥
yesterday Megan from the Remodeled Life shared the how-to
for a pretty silhouette necklace …
and i want to show you how to make one of these funky fun zipper bracelets
kay? let’s make stuff!

you’ll need:
7 inch separating zippers ~ charms – beads
20 gauge jewelry wire ~ lobster clasps
and some jewelry pliers
this is really the only tricky part …
using a drill with a small bit attached,
drill a hole through the clamp at the base of the zipper
(slowly & carefully 🙂

using the pliers, i separated the jump ring,
added the lobster clasp and attached it to the the base of the zipper
(where we drilled the hole 🙂
with scissors, trim down both sides of the zipper close to the teeth,
while leaving a bit of the colored edge
to keep the edges from fraying i used the flame from a small candle
to heat & seal the edges of the zipper
(it will also burn off any stray pieces that are left after cutting)
now time to embellish!
i added a few charms and beads to the same ring that holds the clasp
i really don’t make jewlery all that often, so i just went with it!
and tried different things until i found a combination i liked…
it’s fun to experiment
🙂
once all the pieces are attached … wrap it up in a pretty box and it’s all set for mom!
(then maybe make one for yourself too 🙂
will be sharing another project tomorrow
be sure to hop on over and pay her a visit!
 happy crafting!

butterfly art … ♥

i hope to get back to some house purging & organizing next week
orders from my etsy shop have been keeping me busy 🙂

last weekend we went to an engagement party … so i thought i’d share a gift idea
not exclusive to wedding-ish stuff
this could be for anything! would be cute in a little girls room with some added pops of color

i used Martha Stewart’s butterfly punch and a regular heart punch
then just wrote down their names and wedding date

the neat thing about this shadow box is it has a opening in the top
… so they can add momentos, or movie tickets as time goes by

i also bought them this book to go along with it
it was so pretty with a gray soft leather cover
i wanted one for me & the hubs 🙂

i had these tags listed in the shop, but sold out of them…
they’re on my to-do list
(which is really long)

happy weekend everyone!
let’s organize next week!
(i hope)
(i really really want to)
(but there’s always something more fun to do)

and the frame was in the $2 bins …
i love this frame! and they had some in a pretty teal color & white
(i may or may not have come home with some of those too)

i used PicMonkey to create an image for the frame

and tied the frame to the top with some pretty ribbon
… add a tag and that’s it!

tea party mat for Two ♥ {with free pretty things for you!}

just poppin’ in real quick today!
tons & tons to do with just a little time before Christmas day 🙂
wanted to share this little tea mat i made with another

… from my bloggy bestie
when i saw this graphic in her shop this idea popped in my head 🙂
(a small problem i have)

this little tea mat was for my girlfriend’s daughter a few weeks ago, for Christmas
i think she loved it … i think i love it too! anyone wanna have a tea party??
(i may have secretly played with it before i packed it up in the basket)
there are no directions since it’s easy enough to do with basic sewing knowledge
or even hot glue, felt and some pinking shears!

i used some leftover felt and pink gingham i had, and cut them to equal sizes
quickly stitched the two long sides together and added ricrac to the two short ends to cover the raw edge
(forgot to get a close up of this, but you can see it in the picture at the bottom of the post)

use iron-on transfer sheets to transfer the image onto a small piece of white fabric
same directions as the vintage inspired message board here
then used a zigzag stitch to sew the image to the mat

the rolled felt flowers are the same as the ones i made for the
add some embellishment and you are done!

now it’s time to play 🙂

oh, and if you want to make some felt tea bags,
cut two small squares of white felt with pinking shears
then cut a piece of brown felt small enough to fit in between the two white ones
sew them together and insert a piece of cording into the top before stitching it completely closed … cut two hearts from some more felt and glue them together at the other end of the cord.

this was a fun Christmas gift! what about for a little girl’s birthday?
the tea set and cupcakes were store bought and the picnic basket was from a garage sale
fun!
Merry Christmas everyone!
