free summer print … ♥

lately i’ve been worrying a lot about waste.
wasted time.
wasted energy.
wasted words.
waste.

it comes back to the fact that most days if my attitude could speak for it self, it would say
“i got this”
“i’ll figure it out”
“i can do this on my own”

that stinks.
cause realistically nothing can be done on my own
i can’t be the kind of wife my husband needs – on my own
i can’t be the kind of mom my kids need – on my own
i can’t even be nice on my own
really
and some days it just feels better to be nasty. doesn’t it?
well for a while it does. then it comes crashing down later

but last time i checked
yup.
just checked…
i’m not asked to do it on my own
i’m not called to be perfect
i’m just called to be faithful
My grace is sufficient for you
for my power is made perfect in weakness
second corinthians twelve.nine

and because i try to do it all by myself
it gets messed up
and it feels like waste

but nothing is waste
Psalm 139 says that God is before us & behind us
He is sovereign
to Him
nothing is wasted
in the hands of the One who redeemed my soul
there is no waste

then go and listen to this song from Jason Gray
go. do it. ♥

baby gift idea ♥ bath time caddy

it’s that time of year 🙂
for babies & weddings
here’s a quick no-fuss gift idea
when you get that next baby shower invite in your mailbox

started off by taping and painting a square on the front of a summer utensil caddy from Target
with some chalkboard paint … it needs a few coats, and some drying time between each
doing this the day before you assemble the gift gives it some time to set

raid the baby department
have fun deciding what to put into the caddy compartments
towels, washcloths, lotion & wash
powder, brush & comb, ointments
and some fun bath toys.

once everything was in it… it still needed a little somethin’ 🙂

this cute vintage baby image was digitally cutified by my gal pal
you can find it in her shop!
using pic monkey, i added the image to some fun baby bath “instructions”

decorated the insert with some pretty paper & embellishments
and tucked it in with the towels

simple, no-stress gift for baby
and it’s super cute too boot
♥

Keren has so many fun digital images in her shop
that can inspire so many crafty ideas 🙂
check out some of these other projects i’ve done that were inspired by her vintage clip-art!

{click on the images to go to the actual post for project instructions}

and she’s been a busy bee adding all new images … what can we make next?

and maybe a summer library tote? or stickers…

this image would be cute with sticky stuff on the back of it 🙂

so many ideas … so little time 🙂
and not to mention her weekly freebies!

mother's day gift idea … ♥ lemon poppy seed soap

Mother’s Day is this Sunday!
it always sneaks up on me. every year.
so with this Handmade Mother’s Day series in full swing
i was forced to plan ahead!
she also made this yummy homemade lemon soap that looked so pretty
i was so excited about how simple the steps were
and really started thinking about the endless amounts of combinations
that could be used to make all different kinds.

mom, hostess, birthday … yup, great gifts for all of those peoples 🙂

i combined a few recipes that really liked, made my own
and then just had fun with it 🙂

i hit the craft store and found what i needed …
i chose the shea butter soap
(there is glycerine & goat’s milk too)
the soap molds were not really to my liking so i wandered over to the baking isle
and found these mini silicone bread molds
the coloring was there too … not sure if you can substitute this coloring with food coloring?
hmm… have to look that up.
from the grocery store i got the lemons & the poppy seeds

the soap is already sectioned, so very easy to measure
i first melted 20 ounces of the soap in a large glass measuring bowl
in the microwave for 1 minute then in 30 second intervals
stirring in between each

once it’s melted add the color, essential oil and the foodie ingredients

mix well.

this batch filled 2 of the bread molds a little over half way
placed it on a cookie sheet, and slid it into the fridge to set
while i melted the last 12 ounces.

the second mixture was just as is, nothing added
since i wanted to add another layer that was just white to top off the first

once the first layer was set (maybe 15 minutes or so)
i poured the white layer over the top and put it back in the fridge

this was the result 🙂
so pretty, and looks yummy!
there are so many possibilities with this … layered colors, flavors, mix-ins …
fun. fun. fun.

i wrapped each bar in parchment paper after slicing
and found these small white ceramics in the kitchen section at Target
to be used as a soap dish
tied up with some fabric scraps … and it’s all ready to gift ♥

try it.
make soap.
you can’t mess it up.
and it’s so fun.

a zipper bracelet tutorial … ♥

Mother’s Day always sneaks up on me 🙂
it’s almost here, and i have a great handmade gift idea to share with you!

all week long, myself & the nine other bloggers, are sharing handmade gift ideas
that will make your mom, or any mom, feel super special ♥
yesterday Megan from the Remodeled Life shared the how-to
for a pretty silhouette necklace …
and i want to show you how to make one of these funky fun zipper bracelets
kay? let’s make stuff!

you’ll need:
7 inch separating zippers ~ charms – beads
20 gauge jewelry wire ~ lobster clasps
and some jewelry pliers
this is really the only tricky part …
using a drill with a small bit attached,
drill a hole through the clamp at the base of the zipper
(slowly & carefully 🙂

using the pliers, i separated the jump ring,
added the lobster clasp and attached it to the the base of the zipper
(where we drilled the hole 🙂
with scissors, trim down both sides of the zipper close to the teeth,
while leaving a bit of the colored edge
to keep the edges from fraying i used the flame from a small candle
to heat & seal the edges of the zipper
(it will also burn off any stray pieces that are left after cutting)
now time to embellish!
i added a few charms and beads to the same ring that holds the clasp
i really don’t make jewlery all that often, so i just went with it!
and tried different things until i found a combination i liked…
it’s fun to experiment
🙂
once all the pieces are attached … wrap it up in a pretty box and it’s all set for mom!
(then maybe make one for yourself too 🙂
will be sharing another project tomorrow
be sure to hop on over and pay her a visit!
 happy crafting!

a little girl's craft nook … ♥

i spent some time over this past weekend
(with help from my family)
spring cleaning my girls rooms … never really shared them on this little bloggy blog
so i thought i’d snap a few pics while it was still clean 🙂
cause heaven knows it won’t stay that way for long.
and cause i’m hoping to change the room up a bit in the near future …

last year for my oldest daughter’s birthday, the hubs built her a mini version of my craft table 🙂
anchored to the wall and with decorative molding

a cupcake stand & mason jars are here
for all the stuff that comes with crafting supplies 🙂

found a few canisters from the thrift stores… they hold spools of thread and stamps

crochet is fun 🙂

this cute little printable calendar is from creative mamma

a few totes for storing odds and ends

and boxes or magazine holders in the dollar section at Target
work great for holding all those loose papers!

remember latch hook?
🙂

here’s a few other shots of her room…

i wrote verses down on parts of her wall
to serve as a reminder and an encouragement

i’m thinking maybe a little paint … maybe some more horses (she loves ’em)
and a bunch of buntings & garlands … yes more of those would be good.
much love ♥ thanks for being here today
linking up to some sweet parties…

ten things for thursday … ♥

it’s no secret that i love vintage
i love a certain kind of vintage though
everything is vintage now-adays
so i think we need to classify vintage in certain categories
my category is the pretty, pastel-ish, girly vintage
i think that’s why i love vintage linens so much
they combine my love of fabric & vintage all into one piece of soft flowery goodness
i have lots of vintage sheets wrapped on fabric boards in my studio
and i love love love finding new things to make with them!
here’s 10 projects that i want to make.
like yesterday.
🙂

oh, and guys!

a little bit of rambling & a shop update … ♥

coming back from vacation is always hard
going to bed late & sleeping in is waaay more fun than going to bed early & getting up early
🙂

i’ve been thinking a lot lately about time spent with my family
and how i can never get back any minute, day, year that goes by
so why do i waste?
striving to find balance in life
i know it will never really be achieved
but i sure want to try to do the best i can
if that means, an early bedtime so i can get up earlier and have some time to be quiet,
read, and reflect on what God has for me
if that means meal planning so we’re not eating cereal for dinner
if it means finding someone to help with the day to day of managing a household
and a small business 🙂
or if it means getting rid of all the clutter, and taking it down to basics,
for a more simplified life…

…then that’s what i want to do
strive to do all of those things
not cause i want everything to be perfect
but because i want things to run smoothly
and i want our home to be peaceful
not perfect
but more peaceful … which seems to equate to more time
more time spent with my hubby
my girls
my Savior

i let my mind wander on this verse for a while
and made up a pretty printable version for you to have
a daily reminder of why we’re here, why we do what we do
over & over . every. single. day.

{just right click and save}
{graphics & special permission was given, to create this printable}
{courtesy of my gal pal Keren @ Free Pretty Things For You!}
{see her terms of use for all her freebies!}

so in the midst of all the post-vacation chaos this week
i’m trying to get back on track
back into the routine of things
and my mind is running at a thousand miles an hour
full to the brim with ideas for new product
that i want to get finished before next week
🙂

the shop re-opens on Monday!!
with all new inventory & a super fun giveaway!!
so don’t forget to come back and take a peek!
i’ll leave you with a few pics of what i’ve been up to today
(heehee)

taking lots n lots of pictures!

behind the scenes … take a look at my super duper fancy photo booth 🙂
keepin’ it real.

so excited to open shop with all new goodies
(and some old favorites 🙂

be back soon with some more details… happy tuesday night!
much love & gladness in my ♥
